Bachelor of Fashion Merchandising

Program Description

The Bachelor of Fashion Merchandising Degree offers students a unique, exciting and vast learning opportunity towards gaining skills, acquiring knowledge and building a strong pathway towards both creative and business orientated fields. Students studying this Degree will be able to experience the collaboration of subject areas covered in Accounting, International Business and Fashion Merchandising.  Students will gain insight towards business areas covered; such as managerial and decision making skills, planning, marketing, promotion, sales, consumer behavior and accounting. Creativity will involve in adapting technical skills further in computer based software, gaining visual merchandising experience through interior and graphic approaches in design of retail spaces, acquiring knowledge through past historical influences on fashion culture and how future fashion trends are emerging and ever changing in our current time. Material production and awareness of fabrications will be studied, along with chain management of merchandise supplies.

Students are to end their final year with a Capstone Final Project Exhibition; highlighting and showcasing their collective talents. An Internship is offered to students who would like to gain real work placement locally, within the Fashion Merchandising field.

Career Pathway

Students can seek professional positions within a varied field of design or business career opportunities, such as a Visual Merchandiser, Fashion Merchandise Consultant, Marketing Specialist, Store/Department Manager or an Account Manager. Students can also work freelance or can start their own businesses. Students are able to continue towards a Master’s Degree in Fashion Merchandising in Higher Education, if they wish to continue their studies further.

·         Accounting, Banking, Finance, Marketing, Management, Production Flow, Research Methods, Laws, Ethics, Sustainability & Business Writing.

·         History, Culture, Trends, Fundamentals of Fashion Merchandising, Fabric & Product Construction, Interior & Graphic Merchandising, Customer Behavior, Costing, Materials, Inventory, Software Tools, Tracking Systems & Managing a Capstone Event.

The 123 total credits of the Bachelor Degree are composed of:

 

Completed Diploma Programmes in either: Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration/or/Diploma of Graphic Design:

·         18 credits of General Education courses

·         9 credits of Core DAAD courses

·         36 credits of Specialist Interior/Graphic courses

Total: 63 Credits

Or:

Completed Diploma Programme in: Diploma of Website Development:

·         18 credits of General Education courses

·         3 credits of a Core DAAD course

·         42 credits of Specialist Web courses

Total: 63 Credits

 

Bachelor of Fashion Merchandising:

·         36 credits of Core Accounting/International Business/Fashion Merchandising courses 

·         24 credits of Specialist Bachelor of Fashion Merchandising courses

·         Internship (Fashion Merchandising)
