Fashion Merchandising Capstone
(CFM 499)

This course entails the final Fashion Merchandising Bachelors project. Students on this course must re-collect all prior learning skills and knowledge and apply this to a creative, merchandising retail project brief.  This course is intended to be a holistic coverage of all student learning elements applicable; which considers the importance of visual merchandising and all the fundamentals and principles, usage of combined software skills to develop both interior and graphic design applications, awareness of fashion fabric/product construction, along with relative business skills to promote a fashion retail store outlet. Students are to challenge and strongly engage with a design brief and all its component tasks ranging from research, site analysis, fashion merchandise analysis and its overall material and supply background, conceptual design developments, sketches and planning steps towards a successful design, along with business solutions of the project type, as well as apply the emphasis of future fashion needs and consumer preferences.

Students are to plan, manage and exhibit their final projects as a ‘Capstone’ and be able to present to both educational and industry led audience members, as well as their fellow peers. Students are expected at this stage to be able to discuss their project outcome strengths, as well as critically reflect on areas of their final works.
